Robert V. Martin, 87, of 904 S. Wayne Street in St.Marys, OH, died Tuesday July 21, 2008 at the Golden Living Center -- Valley Nursing Home in St.Marys.

He was born October 24, 1921 in Wapakoneta, OH to Edwin & LaVere (Hudson) Martin.

On July 15, 1944 he married Rosemary I. Burmeister, who died February 22, 2000.

Survivors include:

sister Mary Lou (LeRoy) Nagel of St.Marys

several nieces and nephews

He was preceded in death by: parents, wife, son, Robert V. Martin II,  and his brother Jack Martin

He was a graduate of Memorial High School in St.Marys.

He was retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in St.Marys after forty-five years, where he was employed as a supervisor and timekeeper.

He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in St.Marys.

A strong advocate of exercise being the basis of good health and a long life, Mr. Martin was an avid golfer, rode his bicycle 7 - 10 miles each day and participated in various activities at the YMCA. He also liked listening to music, and especially enjoyed playing his concert bass horn.

Funeral services will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Saturday August 1, 2009 at the Zion Lutheran Church 210 N. Wayne Street in St.Marys, with the Rev. Bill Maki, officiating. Burial is to follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery in St.Marys.

Visitation for family and friends will be held 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Friday at the Miller - Long & Folk Funeral Home 314 W. High Street in St.Marys and after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be directed to either: the Zion Lutheran Church building fund or current expenses.
