Charles E. Long, 74, of 2100 Celina Road, Lot 115, died suddenly at 2:06 P.M. Saturday, December 1, 2007, in the emergency department of Joint Township Hospital in St.Marys, OH.

He was born February 11, 1933, in St.Marys, the son of Webster and Marie (Drake) Long.

He married Mary Elizabeth Mertz on September 26, 1953; she preceded him in death on November 13, 1991.

He is survived by his two daughters: Christine (Mark) Chadwick of St.Marys; Cheryl (Jim) Brown of St.Marys; by three grandchildren: Harmony Hutman, Justin Hawkins and Ryan Hawkins; by two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one brother, Webster Long and a sister, Goldie Mae Long.

Charles retired from Parker Cylinder Division after 44 years of service. He belonged to Eagles Arie 767, Saint Marys; he was a social member of both the VFW and American Legion in Saint Marys. While his daughters were growing up he was an active volunteer with the Girl Scouts of America and the VFW Baton and Drum Corps; he spent countless hours delivering Girl Scout cookies, driving the Drum Corps to events and even marching along with them in parades. He had been an active member of the West Ohio Junior Rifle Club. He loved socializing and riding motorcycles.

Funeral services will be held 5:00 P.M. Wednesday, December 7, 2007, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, the Reverend Bill Maki officiating. Private family burial rites will be held at a later date.


Friends may call from 1:00-5:00 P.M. on Wednesday at the funeral home, where memorial donations may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
