Roger R. Koons, 69, of 303 Orchard Drive in St.Marys, OH died 7:18 p.m. Monday July 27, 2009 in the emergency department at JTDM Hospital. 

He was born March 6, 1940 in St.Marys, OH to Norman “Pete” and Rachel (Stewart) Koons. 

On July 27, 1963 in Sidney, OH, he married Diane S. Haney, who survives. 

He is also survived by:

                            daughter Heidi (Daniel) Lemmerman  of St.Marys, OH

                             daughter Heather (Carl) Moeller  of St.Marys, OH

                             son Tim (Mary) Koons  of St.Marys, OH

                             8 grandchildren: Matthew, Luke & Zachary Lemmerman; Samuel, Max, Rachel & Meg Moeller;  Abigail Koons

                             sister Karen (Lou) Dimitroff  of Vienna, VA 

He was preceded in death by his  parents. 

He was a 1958 graduate of Memorial High School in St.Marys and then received a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Indiana Technical Institute in Ft.Wayne, IN. 

He retired from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in St.Marys, where he was employed as a chemical engineer. 

He was a member of the St.Paul’s United Church of Christ in St.Marys. 

Roger was a big supporter of St.Marys Roughrider sports programs and meticulous about caring for his lawn.  He also was an avid golfer and fisherman, and enjoyed attending activities in which his grandchildren participated.

Funeral services are to be conducted 10:30 a.m. Friday July 31, 2009 at the St.Paul’s United Church of Christ 210 N. Perry Street in St.Marys, with the Rev. Dr. Ed Bray, officiating. Burial is to follow at the Elm Grove Cemetery, in St.Marys. 

Visitation will be held  2 – 4 and 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday at the Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road in St.Marys and after 9:30 a.m. on Friday at the church. 

Memorial contributions may be directed to either: American Lung Association for cancer research or Epilepsy Foundation.
