John P. Humphries, 73, of 805 Oliver Street, Saint Marys, Ohio, died 11:25 A.M. Sunday, September 14, 2008, at Saint Ritas Medical Center in Lima, Ohio, following a brief illness.
He was born September 7, 1935, in Bedford, Indiana, the son of Belt and Marguerite (Sulgrove) Humphries.
He married Marie Klosterman on June 28, 1958; she survives at the residence.
He is survived by his three children: DeeAnn (Roger) Squire of Orlando, Florida; Terry (Jenine) Humphries of Saint Marys; Scott (Cherie) Humphries of Decatur, Alabama; by nine grandchildren: Greg Squire, Jessica Squire, Ryan Squire, Stephanie Kohlstedt, Nicole Humphries, Leslie Humphries, Grant Humphries, Gannon Humphries and Garrison Humphries; by two great-grandchildren: Keira Squire and Ayden Kohlstedt.
He is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters: Jane Ann Ross, Sarah Leach, and Mary Jones.
John was a 1954 graduate of Alexandria High School in Alexandria, Indiana. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps.
John retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Saint Marys after 30 years of service. He enjoyed boating and golfing and was a member of Northmoor Country Club. He was a member of Eagles Lodge 767, American Legion Post 323 and VFW Post 9289, all in Saint Marys. He had previously served on the VFW Color Guard Unit, appearing in parades and funeral duty.
He as a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Saint Marys.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, September 19, 2008, at
Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Saint Marys, Father Anthony Cutcher, celebrant.
Burial, with military rites, will follow at Gethsemane Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Thursday at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, Ohio and one hour prior to the mass on Friday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to either Holy Rosary Catholic Church or the Auglaize County Cancer Association.
