Gertrude Hughes, 83, of 1111 North Augustus St., St.Marys, OH, died 4:10p.m. Friday, February 29,2008 at her residence. 

She was born February 12 1925 in Santa Fe, OH, the daughter of Jacob and Nellie (Miller) Ritchie. 

She married Ronald Hughes and he preceded her in death on May 29,1993. 

She is survived by her companion of 50 years, Jim Adams of St.Marys, and by his family, Sue (Vern) Stucke of Minster and their two children. 

Gertrude is also survived by her two daughters:  Mary Beth Lawson of St.Marys; Ruth (Jim) August of Belvidere, IL; by 7 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; by 2 sisters: Eva Anderson of Dayton, OH; Helen Klopfenstein of Jackson Center; a brother: Charles Herring of Sidney, OH. 

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 6 sisters: Mabel, Mary, Harriett, Donna, Margaret, and Bessie; by a great-granddaughter, Banessa Crosley. 

Gertrude retired from the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in St.Marys, OH.  She was a life member of VFW Post 9289 Auxiliary in St.Marys and the Wayne Street United Methodist Church.  She enjoyed doing yard work, going fishing, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren.

Funeral rites will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 5,2008 at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 West High St., St.Marys, OH, the Rev. Mary Kay Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens near Moulton, OH.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home where memorial donations may be directed to either the Auglaize County Unit of the American Cancer Fund or the American Heart Fund.
