Gerald E. Hoenie, 77, of 14641 Auglaize County Road 66-A, Saint Marys, Ohio, died 8:35 A.M. Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at his residence.

He was born December 9, 1931, in Mercer County, Ohio, the son of Raymond and Mabel (Regedanz) Hoenie.

He married Joan M. Alexander on July 26, 1952; she survives at the residence.

He is survived by his three children: Jerry (Beverly) Hoenie of Saint Marys; Mike (Victoria) Hoenie of Saint Marys; Patricia (Mark) Cisco of New Bremen; by 8 grandchildren: Matthew Hoenie; Thomas Hoenie; Christina Kittle; Jeremy Hoenie; Melinda Hoenie; Eddie Hoenie; Abigail Cisco and Elly Cisco; by a great grandchild: Lisle Kittle.; by 2 step-grandchildren: Brian Hovest and Cory Hovest; by a step-great-grandchild, Grace Hovest.

He is also survived by his two brothers: Jim (Delores) Hoenie of Fort Myers, Florida; Warren (Nancy) Hoenie of Bonita Springs, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Gerald was a 1950 graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during the Korean Conflict.

Gerald was the president and owner of Hoenie and Kogge Construction Company in Saint Marys for many years. In retirement he worked at Carter Lumber Company.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Saint Marys; a life member of VFW Post 9289; American Legion Post 323 and Eagles Lodge 767, all in Saint Marys. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed spending time in Florida. He was a fan of the Saint Marys Roughriders and NASCAR; he enjoyed working in his yard. He also enjoyed playing shuffleboard. He dearly loved his family and was proud of his children and grandchildren and all that they had accomplished.

Funeral rites will be held 2:00 P.M. Sunday, January 4, 2008, at Zion Lutheran Church, Saint Marys, the Reverend William Maki, officiant. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Saturday at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 West High Street, Saint Marys, where memorial donations may be directed to either Zion Lutheran Church or Grand Lake Hospice.
