Elmer E. Hoelscher, 89, of 11008 Kettlersville Road, New Knoxville, OH,  died 12:10 P.M. Monday, November 12, 2007 at the Wapakoneta Manor Nursing Home, Wapakoneta, OH. 

He was born June 16, 1918, in New Knoxville, the son of George and Anna (Lammers) Hoelscher. 

He married Martha Lammers on June 18, 1942; she survives at the residence. 

He is survived by:

¨ Son, Jerry (Judy) Hoelscher of New Knoxville, OH

¨ Daughter, Marsha Hayes of New Knoxville, OH

¨ 3 grandchildren: Shannon (Shawn) Spencer of Waterville, OH; Dionna (Ron) Duncan of Palm Harbor, FL; Dennis (Natalie) Baker of Columbus, OH

¨ 7 great-grandchildren: Chloe, Sam, Lydia, Grace, Rhys, Logan and Seth. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings: Martha Schroer, Noah Hoelscher, Esther Elshoff, Ruby Jauert and Kermit Hoelscher.  

Elmer was a retired farmer. He loved playing cards at the Eagles in St. Marys and Wapakoneta and driving around looking at the crops . He was noted for his storytelling abilities and he was a talented welder in spite of having lost four fingers on his right hand in an accident. He had enjoyed traveling and reading in earlier years. 

 He was a lifelong member of the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville.

 

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, November 17, 2007, at the First United Church of Christ, New Knoxville, the Very Reverend Dr. David Williams, officiant. Burial will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery, New Knoxville.

 

Friends may call from 4:30-8:30 P.M. Friday, November 16, 2007, in the Heritage Room of the First United Church of Christ, where memorial donations may be directed to the Radio Broadcast Fund of the church.
