Margaret S. Henschen, 89, of 10545 East Shelby Road, New Knoxville, Ohio, died 11:15 P.M. Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at the Saint Marys Living Center.

She was born June 7, 1922, on the rural New Knoxville farm where she lived her entire life, the daughter of William and Sara (Bierbaum) Henschen. 

She is survived by her nieces and nephews: Eldred (Irene) Elshoff of LaCanada, California; Kenneth (LeaAnn) Elshoff of Columbus, Ohio; Mack Elshoff of New Knoxville; Brent (Rita) Henschen of New Knoxville; Barb (Dale) Niemeyer of New Knoxville; by a sister-in-law, Betty Henschen of New Knoxville; by numerous great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; by two sisters: Velma Elshoff and Miriam Henschen; a brother, Josea Henschen. 

Margaret was a 1940 graduate of New Knoxville High School and a 1940 graduate of International Business College in Fort Wayne. She retired, after 36 years of service, as an Executive Secretary at Avco New Idea Corporation in Coldwater.

She was an avid bowler for many years, and also traveled with her sister, Miriam, for numerous years. She was a member of the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, where she was confirmed on March 21, 1937; she held various offices in the Sunday School Departement of the church. She enjoyed good music and sang in the church choir for over 50 years; she was active in the Ladies’ Guild of the church. She was a charter member of the New Knoxville Historical Society, a member of Joint Township District Memorial Hospital Guild and an avid fan of New Knoxville Ranger basketball. 

Funeral rites will be held 2:00 P.M. Saturday, October 8, 2011, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys, the Reverend Dennis Gaertner, officiant. Burial will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery, New Knoxville.

Friends may call from noon until time of services at the funeral home on Saturday, where memorial donations may be directed to either the Saint Marys Living Center Activity Fund or Grand Lake Hospice.

 

Final resting place is the Elm Grove Cemetery in St.Marys.  Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of one’s own choosing.
