Virginia B. Gurtner, 92, of 120 Lakewood Court in St. Marys, OH died 5:45 a.m. Thursday June 3, 2010 at St. Marys Living Center.

She was born July 30, 1917 in Richmond, IN to Walter and Grace (Ross) Sowers.

On August 29, 1939, she married Meredith L. Gurtner, who died May 16, 1984.

Survivors include:

  • daughter, Sandra (Mike) Bowers of St. Marys, OH
  • son, D. Todd Gurtner of Summerville, SC
  • 6 grandchildren
  • 10 great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, George Engle; brother, Allan Engle.

She was a 1935 graduate of Union City Community High School in Union City, IN and attended Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Dayton, OH.  She was homemaker and dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.  Her favorite pastimes included flower and vegetable gardening, solving crossword puzzles and knitting.

Funeral rites will be conducted 1:00 p.m. Monday June 7, 2010 at Miller Funeral Home & Cremation Service 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West) in St. Marys, with the Rev. Charles Richtmyer, officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, near Moulton, OH.

Visitation for family and friends will be held 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home on Ohio 703 West.
