Virgil Herbert Gruebmeyer, 88, of 404 South East Street, New Knoxville, Ohio, died 6:10 P.M. Friday, May 14, 2010, at his residence.
He was born June 13, 1921, in Shelby County, Ohio, the son of Henry and Leona (May) Gruebmeyer.
He married Julia Richardson and she preceded him in death.
He is survived by his two daughters: Karen (Ken) Eagle of Morristown, North Carolina; Sheila (John) Eversman of Van Wert, Ohio; by five grandchildren: Loreen Buddemeyer; Cindy Talada; Mark Buddemeyer; Alexandra Craig; Joshua Eversman; by one great-grandchild: Abigail Craig; by one sister, Virginia (Kermit) Heidt of Lima; by a long time companion, Terry Hesson of Celina; by a caregiver, Tami Stoker of New Knoxville
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters: Irene Seitz;
Lucille Moeller; Nancy Gruebmeyer; two brothers: Harold and Robert Gruebmeyer.
Virgil was a 1939 graduate of New Knoxville High School. He served in the United States Army during WWII. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company after 34 years of service. He was a member of VFW Post 9289 in Saint Marys; DAV in Wapakoneta. He enjoyed traveling and gardening. He was a member of the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville.
Funeral rites will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday, June 5, 2010, at the First United Church of Christ in New Knoxville, the Reverend David Williams, officiant. Burial, with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 444, will follow at German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen.
Friends may call one hour prior to services at the church, where memorial donations may be directed to the Radio Broadcast Fund of the First United Church of Christ.
