Harold C. “Butch” Fry, 88, formerly of 514 Hines Drive, Saint Marys, and a resident of Otterbein Saint Marys Retirement Community, died 3:15 P.M. Wednesday, January 20, 2010, at Otterbein Saint Marys.
He was born February 28, 1921, in Buckland, Ohio, the son of Ralph and Emma (Seitz) Fry.
He married Helen Elsea on September 19, 1946; she preceded him in death on February 8, 2000.
He is survived by his significant other, Dottie Stahl of Saint Marys; by his children: Arlen “Jake” (Kathy) Fry of Saint Marys; Brenda (Michael) Fishbaugh of Celina; Louis (Sue) Fry of Saint Marys; Martha “Marty” (William) Wisener of Saint Marys; Sandie (James) Wieman of New Bremen; by a daughter-in-law: Sandra S. Fry of Greenville; a son-in-law: Dennis Wenning of Celina; by 16 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great-grandchildren; by one brother: Norman (Erlene) Fry of Derby, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, a daughter, Tana Wenning; a son,
Lee Fry; a grandson, Louis Fry; a granddaughter, Shonda Fry; by two brothers:
Robert and Paul Fry.
Butch was a 1939 graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School. He was proud of having played basketball for the Saint Marys Roughriders.
He was a veteran of the United States Army, having served during WWII.
Butch was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Saint Marys. He enjoyed camping, tinkering and playing bingo. He had formerly lived near West Elementary School in Saint Marys and he always enjoyed watching the kids on the playground at recess time. He was a life member of American Legion Post 323 and VFW Post 9289 in Saint Marys, and the Wapakoneta DAV.
He retired from the Saint Marys Foundry, where he had been a foreman. He later worked at Beckett’s Sohio.
Funeral rites will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, January 25, 2010, at the Miller Funeral Home, 1605 Celina Road, Saint Marys. His grandson, Reverend Jimmy Sweigart, will officiate. Burial, with military honors conducted by American Legion Post 323 and VFW Post 9289, will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens.
Friends may call from 2-5 and 6-8 P.M. Sunday at the Miller Funeral Home, where memorial donations may be directed to State of the Heart Hospice; the JTDMH Foundation or Otterbein Saint Marys Benevolence Fund. Condolences
