James Edward Cooper, 72, formerly of New Bremen, OH, died Tuesday July 28, 2008 at the University of Oklahoma Medical Center in Oklahoma City, OK.
He was born January 2, 1937 in New Bremen, OH to Robert A. & Catherine (Tangeman) Cooper.
Survivors include:
widow, Janet “Becky” (Westerbeck) Cooper of Ponca City, OK
daughter, Laura (Jeff) Hobler of New Knoxville, OH
daughter, Ellen (Kenneth) Nowlin of Olympia, WA
daughter, Eileen ( David) Imwalle of Tulsa, OK
daughter, Lynda Cooper of New Bremen, OH
son, Robert Cooper of Tulsa, OK
sister, Anna Mae (James) Hudson of New Bremen, OH
sister, Marlene (Dennis) Lammers of New Knoxville, OH
He was preceded in death by his father Robert Cooper; mother, Catherine Cooper-Knost;, step-father, Albert Knost.
He was a 1955 graduate of New Bremen High School.
He served as chief of police for the Village of New Bremen from 1958 to 1972. Following his police duty, he owned and operated a construction business from 1972 until 1981. He then moved to Ponca City, OK and continued his construction business, focusing primarily on the building of nursing homes until his retirement in 1999.
He was a member of Woodlands Christian Church in Oklahoma, and a former member of St.Peter’s Church in New Bremen.
He was an avid gardener. He also enjoyed fishing and working in his pecan and apple orchards.
Services are scheduled 7:00 p.m. Wednesday August 5, 2009 at St.Peter’s Church 303 N. Franklin Street in New Bremen, with the Rev. Stephen Wills, officiating. Private family burial will take place I the German Protestant Cemetery in New Bremen.
Visitation for family and friends will be held 4 – 7 p.m. on Wednesday prior to services at the church.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller Funeral Homes in St.Marys.
