L. G. “Sonny” Carmean, 87, of 14888 Ohio 66 North in St. Marys, OH died 1:06 p.m. Tuesday November 29, 2011 at Golden Living Center – Valley in St. Marys.

He was born September 24, 1924 in St. Marys, OH to Stephen and Cina (Bowman) Carmean.

On April 10, 1948 in Wapakoneta, OH he married Evelyn Clara Koenig, who died August 30, 2003.

He is survived by:

son ,Terry (Deb) Carmean  of St. Marys, OH

daughter, Diane (David) Blackburn  of Wapakoneta, OH

son-in-law, Bill Woods  of Martin, TN

daughter-in-law, Patricia Carmean  of Toledo, OH

8  Grandchildren     

5 great-grandchildren

brother, Francis (Grace) Carmean  of St. Marys, OH

He was preceded in death by:  parents Stephen and Cina Carmean, wife Evelyn Carmean, son Michael Carmean, daughter Christine Marie Woods, brother Shannon Carmean, brother  Gordon Carmean, brother Carl Carmean, brother Eugene Carmean, sister Opal Diltz, sister Fara Lewis, sister Laverne Reineke, sister Sylvia Carmean, sister Betty Johnson, sister Winona Ellis

He was a graduate of Memorial High School in St. Marys.

He was veteran of the US Army Air Corps, and received 2 bronze stars and a silver star for his service during World War II.

He retired as a production employee from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. in St Marys after 46 1/2 years of service.

He was Roman Catholic.

He was a life member of the American Legion Post # 323 and VFW Post # 9289, both in St. Marys.

An avid woodworker, he also enjoyed boating, camping and fishing. He traveled to 49 of the 50 states and spent many winters in Florida. Best of all was the time spent with his children and grandchildren.

Rites are scheduled 9:00 a.m. Saturday December 3, 2011 at Miller Funeral Home 1605 Celina Road (Ohio 703 West Chapel) in St. Marys, with the Rev. Anthony E. Cutcher, officiating. Burial, with full graveside military rites, will follow at Resthaven Memory gardens, near Moulton, OH.

Visitation 5 – 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the donor’s choice.
