Charles “Charlie” Botkin, 90, of 1033 South Wayne Street, Saint Marys, and a resident of Liberty Nursing Center, Xenia, Ohio, died 7:03 P.M. Tuesday, September 21, 2010, at Liberty Nursing Center.

He was born September 7, 1920, in Saint Marys, the son of John and Stella (Hertenstein) Botkin.

He married Mildred Alspaugh on June 11, 1946 and she survives with her daughter in Xenia.

He is survived by one daughter, Jean Rupert of Xenia; by two grandsons: Nick Rupert of Xenia; Greg Rupert of Dayton; by three great-grandchildren: Alana; Ashley and Andrew; by two brothers: Glenn (Helen) Botkin of San Diego, Cali; Frank (Sally) Botkin of Lima.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Botkin; a sister, Janelle Glass.

Charlie was a 1941 graduate of Saint Marys Memorial High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, having served during WWII. He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Saint Marys, where he had been a tool and die maker for more than 44 years.
He was a member of the former First Presbyterian Church in Saint Marys; he was a 65 year member of Mercer Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons in Saint Marys; a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed gardening and yard work. He was a woodworker and helped build the Memorial Park Bridge in downtown Saint Marys. He was a huge fan of the Saint Marys Roughriders and was a great family man.

Funeral rites will be held 1:30 Saturday, September 25, 2010, at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 West High Street, Saint Marys, the Reverend Tim Smith, officiant. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home, where memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Miami Valley Hospice
