Dorothy Bambauer, 89, formerly of 19166 Kettlersville Road, Kettlersville, Ohio, died 5:30 A.M. Thursday, December 3, 2009, at Dorothy Love Retirement Community in Sidney, Ohio.

She was born January 17, 1920, in Auglaize County, the daughter of William and Dora (Schroer) Schmidt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and she was raised by George and Emma Schroer following the death of her parents.

She married Harold Bambauer on August 14, 1940 and he preceded her in death on March 17, 1995.

She is survived by her four children: Joyce (Larry) Engle of Bellefontaine, Ohio; Richard Bambauer of Pemberton, Ohio; Gary (Sharyn) Bambauer of Madison, Mississippi; Paul (Teresa) Bambauer of New Knoxville; by 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; by one sister, Wilma Lammers of New Knoxville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers: Clarence Schmidt; Elmer Schmidt; Julius Schmidt; ; by three sisters: Alice Lutz, Nelda Shaner and Salome Robins; by a daughter-in-law, Gretchen Bambauer.

Dorothy was a 1940 graduate of New Knoxville High School. She was a homemaker and assisted in the operation of the family farm. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, making crafts, and gardening. She was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Kettlersville, where she had been a Sunday School teacher and former Sunday School Superintendent.

Funeral rites will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday, December 7, 2009, at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Kettlersville, the Reverend Charles Moeller, officiant. Burial will follow at Schwaberow Cemetery.

Friends may call from 2-7 P.M. Sunday at the Miller-Long and Folk Funeral Home, 314 West High Street, Saint Marys, where memorial donations may be directed to either Immanuel United Church of Christ or Senior Independence Hospice.
