Beverly Miller Obituary

Beverly Miller, 95, of Saint Marys, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 17, 2024, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her family, under hospice care.

Beverly, “Babe”, as she was known by her friends, was born December 7, 1928, in Lock Two, near New Bremen, Ohio, to the late Arnold and Onnolee (Murray) Heil.

Beverly graduated from Saint Marys Memorial High School, class of 1946, along with her high school sweetheart, Thomas J. Miller. Tom and Beverly married on March 13, 1948, at Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ in Saint Marys where she was a lifelong member. She and Tom enjoyed 65 years of marriage until his death on June 28, 2013.

 

She is survived by her children: Leah (Stan) Wendel of Vandalia, Missouri; Vicke (Joe Westerfield) Miller-McGee of Saint Marys; David (Mary Ellen) Miller of Saint Marys; Nancy (Tim) Gross of Wapakoneta; by her grandchildren: Lori (Brent) Galati of Saint Charles, Missouri; Heidi (Keith) Collins of High Ridge, Missouri; Shawn (Kathy) McGee of Saint Marys; Danielle (Joe) Fargo of Saint Marys; Natalie (Wayne) McGee of Lima; Mandy (Shannon) Hammonds of Liberty Township, Ohio; Katie (Sarat) Mikkilineni of Cincinnati; Tom (Dawn) Gross of Saint Marys; Lisa (James) Meeker of Saint Marys.She is also survived by 22 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren and by her cousin, Richard Murray of Celina.

 

Along with her parents and husband, Beverly was preceded in death by her in-laws, Ted and Thelma (Toben) Miller; her young son, Tommy Miller and son-in-law, Danny McGee.

Beverly worked at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, and later joined her daughter and son-in-law at the Old Canal Inn Restaurant in Saint Marys, where she was well known for her meatloaf and cream pies. She never gave out those recipes even though many had asked. Beverly retired from the restaurant in 1990.

Tom and Beverly then enjoyed spending their winters in Florida and summers in Michigan, fishing, boating and playing golf. She loved reading books and was a wonderful writer, always writing in her journals and hoping someday to write a book. She was an elementary reading mentor for many years.

Beverly touched so many lives with her great sense of humor and the funny stories she told. She loved playing rummicube with her friends and family ,and also watching OSU Buckeye football and Cincinnati Reds baseball. At 94 she went to the Reds ballgame in Cincinnati with her family and had many stories to tell of her special day.

Private family graveside funeral rites will be held at a later date, with Pastor Rhonda Hainer, officiating.

Beverly’s family wishes to offer their special thanks to Grand Lake Hospice and the 6th floor nursing staff at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, for making her journey on hospice peaceful.

Memorial gifts may be given to either the Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ Organ Fund or Grand Lake Hospice.
